"Mil's" has resumed the development of heavy transport helicopter

Moscow Helicopter Factory named after Mil began to develop a new heavy helicopter, which was based on the world's largest multi-purpose transport helicopter Mi-26. Technical characteristics of the Mi-46 are not reported. Along with the creation of this new machine Mil will modernize the existing Mi-26.

The development of the Mi-46 was first started in the early 1990's, but was stopped because the project was announced useless. According to the technical task of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of Russia, the Mi-46 was supposed to combine the functions of transport helicopters and helicopter-tap.

According to calculations, the mass of the Mi-46 was to be 30 tons. For comparison, the Mi-26 is 56 tons. The new helicopter can reach speeds over 270 kilometers per hour, and its flight range of 750 kilometers. During the development of Mi it was decided to create two in one - a transport helicopter and the helicopter crane.
